Symptom Management

Good symptom management is essential in the care of palliative care patients. As the focus shifts towards quality of life (rather than quantity), skilful palliation of symptoms will not only improve quality of life, but will also allow for psychosocial and spiritual suffering to be addressed. Symptom management needs to be appropriate to the stage of the patient’s disease, and good communication with the patient and family will help to facilitate appropriate palliative care.
